Giving choices verbally can be very helpful in gaining your kiddo’s compliance in daily routines. But, what happens when a verbal choice is no longer enough? It might be time to switch it up! Here is one way to add a twist to “giving choices” in order to make those daily rituals go a little bit more smoothly: Make a basket or bag of visuals, that show or say (depending on developmental level) each task that must be performed. Pictured are the Lovevery daily routine cards, but even a stick figure drawing on a post-it would do. Have your kiddo close their eyes and choose a card. This can make it feel like a game, and not just a boring task that a grownup is forcing. When this gets old? Throw the cards in a container of beans or rice to “fish” out!
